The Angel Brigade is a team of volunteers doing relief operations for the typhoon victims. The brigade accepts donations in kind (cash is promptly converted into relief goods in kind), accepts volunteers from 1-9pm to pack food, clothes, medicines, toys, life vests and other relief items.
We’ve been going to the Angel Brigade HQ at the Fort, twice this week. It’s interesting and heart-warming how people from all walks of life have come together to do something that will help Filipinos affected by the typhoon.
The work we do at the Angel Brigade ranges from sorting clothes, packing sets of clothes (men, ladies and kids tops and bottoms), packing sets of food (water, rice, milk, biscuits, noodles, sardines). These essentially are the end results, but there are so many tasks to do and it is … let’s just say it puts a smile on my face when I see how people help out in any way they can, big or small.
Sometimes it’s just the opening of plastic bags (so that the next person will have an easier time putting in goods). Sometimes it’s explaining to children how we’re helping other kids affected by the typhoon.
Angel Brigade is also a place of action, never mind the complaints. If you’ve come to the Angel Brigade, you’re here to help. Leave the complaints outside the door: complaints about politicians, about government, about the lack of (fill in the blanks) or about the irresponsibility of (fill in the blanks). Nevermind the complaints. The Angel Brigade is here to help in whatever way we can. Let’s just do it, and do it with a smile ;-) .
