It is the secret behind the secret. It is the secret behind getting everything we ever wanted in life. It’s something I’ve read about, it’s something I’ve tried out in the past, it’s something that creates amazing results, it’s something that helps me move forward to success faster and more easily. It’s something that I continue to practice to make my life work 100% .

It  is called Completion.

I first encountered the term “Completion” when I took my Starshooters seminar in 2007. We called it the completion exercise. In essence, Completion is closing any loose ends in our lives. Loose ends include things like:

  • cleaning up our work area
  • paying debts
  • forgiving a friend
  • asking forgiveness from a friend
  • letting go of old clothes
  • letting go of old love letters from past relationships

The list can be quite long. (At the bottom of this article is a guide on areas of completion). All of these above items are incomplete things in our lives. And completing them is like taking a weight off our shoulders. In the Philippines, we like to say “parang nabunutan ng tinik” (like a thorn has been removed).

Being in agreement with yourself

One of the principles I learned from PSI is “Be in Agreement“. Being in agreement allows your heart to celebrate in being in integrity  with people around you. Agreements allow people to live their lives in harmony with one another.

And guess what! What happens when you fail to complete things? For instance, you made a decision to pay the bills today, but failed to do it. You are not in agreement with yourself. And subconsciously, there’s this voice at the back of your head saying “Sucker! You said you’d pay the bills today but you didn’t!” That voice is a voice of the incomplete. It is a nagging voice that keeps you from achieving your goals in life.

Coach Santi said it well in our meeting last night: When you have incompletes, there is a subconscious feeling that you do not deserve to receive your goals and other blessings — because you feel like you don’t deserve it by virtue of what you have not completed.

For example, when I have unpaid debts, I feel as if I have less of integrity when I am asking my debtors to pay me.

Another example, when I am not at peace with a previous relationship, past issues with past relationships crop up in my current relationship. Just a few weeks ago, I blew my top. I lost my temper. And I hated myself for it. Because it was a reminder of how I had lost my temper in a previous relationship. I lost my temper so badly that I crashed my cellphone on the wall in sheer frustration while fighting with my ex over the phone. That happened not just once but twice!

This is some of my trash that I want to put behind me in peace. Part of my past relationships that I want to let go of so that I can enjoy my current relationship more today. ;-)

Letting go of the handbrake

In his book “The Success Principles”, Jack Canfield refers to completion as “Letting go of the handbrakes”. Imagine you drive off from your garage in the morning. You’re going along driving to work. And you feel that the car isn’t going as fast as you want. It feels so effortful to move forward. And then you realize that your handbrakes have been on since you left your garage. What will you do?

Well, you let go of the handbrakes, of course!

Letting go of the handbrakes is letting go of the past incompletes in your life. Letting go of the handbrakes means making peace with your past, maybe with yourself or maybe with other people.

Take out the trash

I mentioned in a previous article about “getting clean” externally and internally. That is part of completion.

In my favorite book “Way of the Peaceful Warrior”, Socrates (the mentor) tells Dan (the student) to “Take out the trash”.

The trash is anything that’s keeping you from the only thing that matters: This moment. Here and now.

Action Completion

Completion may take different forms. Sometimes it means literally going through your things at home and cleaning up. Sometimes it could mean literally going to a person and paying a debt. It could also mean sending a text message, facebook message or email — just to tell a person that you are sorry. It doesn’t matter whether the person responds to you positively or whether the person responds to you at all. What matters is that you have released words that help you heal yourself and close the incomplete.

Here’s a list of areas of our lives which we can examine to identify incompletes.
